Name changes

Hey, I am looking to change my Minecraft in-game username through Mojang and was wondering if this would affect me being able to access the server? I am not 100% sure how the whitelist works so I thought it would be worth checking if I will still be able to connect after I go through with the name change. I should add that I'm not changing my name to avoid any sort of ban, rather just because I created the account when I was 12 and would like to change it.
